Frau – Leben – Freiheit
Music for Inner StrengthNew musical connections between the Middle East and Europe
Past event
Description
This evening is held under the motto of the Iranian “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement.
In 2023, a group of non-European musicians gathered around ethnomusicologist Yalda Yazdani and guitarist, composer, and curator Mahan Mirarab to form a new ensemble: the Inner Unity Ensemble.
Representing a new generation of migrant musicians in Europe, Mahan Mirarab and his trio along with the other ensemble members are committed to diversity and quality. Drawing from the individual musical styles of their different countries of origin, the musicians focus on what connects them. Their unique sound evolves from Iranian, Arabic, and Turkish music in combination with different harmonic concepts from classical European music and jazz.
With the Iranian female vocalist Samin Ghorbani, language also plays a special role in the Inner Unity Ensemble. “Language” in many regards, for it also signifies that women should have and raise their voices.
“The voice of Iranian female singers will never fall silent, their strong voices will be heard all over the world! We will press on with our music! Hope for peace and freedom for all people all over the world!” (Inner Unity Ensemble)
